California Billiards Monday Night 14.1 League Info Game The game is straight pool or 14.1 continuous. Play any ball into any pocket for one point per ball. Leave the last ball of each rack up to break the next (14-ball) rack. Format This is an individual drop-in league -- no teams. Play when you can on Monday nights. The more you play, the better your chances of making the play-offs. You can play two or even three matches in one night if other members also want to play more than one match. The league fee is $10 per player per match. You get 3 ranking points for each win and -1/2 point for each loss. The four players with the most points at the end of the season get cash awards. Playoffs are held after the regular season as a single-elimination tournament. Every player who has a minimum number of matches (about 10, depending on the length of the season) and a minimum number of ranking points (about 10) gets into the playoffs. Most of the cash prizes in the league are awarded to the playoff winners. The positions in the chart are seeded according to ranking points so the players with the most points are most likely to get byes. Handicaps The matches are handicapped. Each player has a rating and the spot the weaker player receives is determined by the difference in ratings. The ratings are adjusted each week according to wins and losses, with each win or loss resulting in a 3-point rating change. If a new player is seriously mis-rated, the league operator may make a manual change to correct the error, but veteran players will be adjusted automatically according to wins and losses. Match Lengths The lengths of the matches are chosen so each match takes about 90 minutes, taking into account the ratings of the players and their past promptness. Meeting this time guideline allows players to start a second match around 8:30 and finish up around 10PM. Schedule Free practice starts at 6:00 on Monday nights and play nominally starts at 6:30. If two players want to start earlier, that can usually be arranged. If you show up late, that's OK too. You can practice until a match finishes or another player shows up. Details of the current session schedule are in the weekly email update you will receive. Prize Fund 100% of the league fees are returned as prizes. Here is the breakdown assuming about 180 paid entries during the session for a prize fund of about $1800.   % amount   item   2%  $40  high run (by percent of target or goal)   1%  $20  second highest run 7% $135 most points in the season   5% $100 second-best points   3%  $60 third-best points 2% $40 fourth-best points 19% $370 first in the playoffs 13% $245 second in the playoffs   8% $155 3rd-4th in the playoffs   4%  $80 5th-8th in the playoffs 2% $40 9th-16th Standings Current standings are available on-line at http://aspastats.appspot.com/Cal/ That page also allows you to figure out handicaps between any two players in the league.
